| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Like his friend Vince Gill, Brad Paisley has achieved the often-difficult feat of reconciling being an entertainer and world-class guitarist. He's proven that on four admirable albums, and 5th Gear follows in that vein. Certainly "Ticks," an airy, radio-friendly ditty, is not the true substance here. That comes with such superior fare as the insightful "All I Wanted Was a Car" and "Online," a sly satire of people's Web facades. While his duet with Carrie Underwood ("Oh Love") is a bit cut and dried, Paisley ably handles "Letter to Me," "It Did," and "Mr. Policeman," a 21st-century outrun-the-law tune. The closing hymn, "When We All Get to Heaven," and ripping instrumental "Throttleneck" are Paisley at his best. It's admirable that he invites his venerable buddies, Little Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Vince Gill, and Bill Anderson, along with Dolly Parton, to join in, but the obligatory "Kung Pao Buckaroos" skit is wearing a bit thin. Better to feature them musically, the way he includes Dickens, Gill, and Anderson on "Bigger Fish to Fry." In a time where lines between county and pop are blurring far too much, it's comforting to know Paisley still realizes and respects the differences. --Rich Kienzle

Brad Paisley "Missed a Gear"? December 20, 2008 I love the album myself, but my wife says it just isn't as good as she thought it would be. I think it is a great cruisin' cd. She thinks it is a great snoozin' cd. I am the one doing this review, so it gets a four out of five stars!
On of the greatest CD's ever! December 19, 2008 Brad Paisley outdid his reputation on this album! There are four incredible songs, and the rest are fantastic surprises. For those of you who enjoy Brad's funnier side, there are two great songs: Ticks, and Online. For those that enjoy his writing ability, you have two amazing songs in: Letter To Me, and Waiting On A Woman.
You will be shocked that the other songs on this album did not make it onto the radio. This guy is ridiculously talented, and might have 5 or 6 future classics on this album alone.
This would make a great Christmas gift! Enjoy!
Talent that is seldom equaled and never surpassed December 2, 2008 5th Gear
Brad Paisley is back in form. He will clearly have several hits on popular radio from this effort. But discerning listeners will realize that those guitar rifts have matured--they are still soaring and lightening fast, but they better match the mood of the music than previous efforts--all of which have been quite good. This man is destined to be one of the greatest talents country music has ever known. He fills his own niche in the industry--weaving catchy melodies through songs that express the feelings, events and friends we have known in our life. He may be "still a be a guy," but he gets what we all feel.
not my favorite November 24, 2008 I love Brad Paisley. I think he's an amazing country singer because he has the voice and talent, and he sings about things that just really seem to fit his personality. I loved this CD for "Online", "It Did", "Ticks", "I'm Still a Guy", and "Letter to Me". Unfortunately, the rest of the songs didn't really spark any interest in me. Overall, a good CD, but I prefer his others to this one.
Brad Rules!!!! October 2, 2008 This CD had 3 of my favorite songs on it, so, it was a winner even before I opened it (they are: Ticks, I'm Still a Guy, Online). I admire his versitility, with fun songs, ballads, love songs and message songs. Not to mention his guitar playing skills.
Brad is the Man!!!!
