Best Indo-Fusion Instrumental Album December 31, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't know where to begin with this album review. Can't single out any tracks out of this album...but if I'm forced to choose, then I'll say "Cyrus" & "Renunciation" have 2be my top fav tracks. I must have been in my 2nd/3rd grade in Bangladesh when my elder brother/sisters used to play this tape. That was back in the early early 80s and didn't know who it was, but I knew back then that this is a master piece. When I moved to states in the late 80s, found this album in my sister's music collection and I was literally thrilled to finally found the album that I was looking for. CD wasn't even in the market then...so I made a tape out of the 33 LP and few years later when blank 'music' cd started to come out in the market, I hooked up the turn table w/ this TDK Music CD recording device and convereted this tape to a CD...does that tell you how much I freaking loved this album? So I have to be first one who had an Anand Shankar cd b4 an actual cd existed in the market! This is probably by far the BEST "indo-fusion" album of all time. Anand Shankar was a musical genious who kept a very low profile, but every single piece of his work was a fine creation. Have u ever hear "Jumpin Jack Flash" by the Stones done in Sitar or Door's "Light MY Fire" done in Sitar...? U'll be freaking amazed...my jaw dropped when I heard it for the first time. I think he's more talented than his uncle Ravi Shankar, who's music I find very boring... I just wish Anand Shankar was alive for few more years to put of some more memorable track...If you've an ear for fine music, don't think twice about this album...
