Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

3 out of 5 stars Honest review from a 37 year old man   December 4, 2008
It was priced around $7 something at Walmart so I bought it. I read the Twilight not too long ago so I decided to read on.

Here is my take on this book and the series upto this 2nd book.

Let me tell you all that this book is, indeed, for Young Adults (primarily teenage girls). I am NOT going to call it flawed but I must admit that story and characters are not to my liking. I say this because most likely that I became desensitized and cynical from having to 'live' my life through thick and thin. I just don't have the life or death passion in everything I come across as I used to when I was a teenager.

However, I don't think this book is bad for younger readers. For that matter, any book that can hold a teenager's attention for more than 30 minutes is a good thing so if your teenagers want it, buy it for them.

I find this book to be better than the first one so if you have read Twilight, you may want to read this one as well. There are bit more intrigue and twists but not enough to deserve anything more than 3 star rating.

Keep in mind that this book is written in first person account of an 18 year old girl so have patience if you find certain passage to be immature or idiotic because we all were once that young and naive.

As for me, I will not be buying Eclipse or Breaking Dawn as I don't see the value in spending more than discounted paperback price for these books. It's just not that interesting to warrant spending even $10 per 3rd and 4th book.

3 out of 5 stars It was just okay...   December 4, 2008
The first book was better. New Moon just... didn't cut it for me. After the very beginning, the book seemed bogged down and boring. When Edward leaves, Bella goes into a depression. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure it was very depressing for her, but does that have to go on for pages and pages and pages and pages? I mean, I ended up skipping over a lot of descriptions of Bella's heartbreak (you can only read a two page long description of the hole in Bella's lungs or whatever so many times...). It just got so redundant. The middle of the book really dragged on. There really wasn't a plot to it, unless you count Bella moping and hanging out with Jacob. I mean, when my friends told me Bella wandered around depressed for almost 300 pages, I thought they were joking. They weren't.
However, this book is saved (nearly) by Jacob. He's not a new character-- many of you will recall him from book one. But he is characterized more deeply and a little surprise is thrown in about him (I'm sure many of you know what I mean). I liked reading about Jacob, though I did think that Bella's descriptions of him got a bit tiring. Jacob was a pretty interesting character, and he managed to drag the middle of the book along nicely.
Then, Bella does something stupid and brings about the end of the book. I won't spoil it, but the end was probably the best part of the book. Partially due to the reapperance of you-know-who, and partially because of the return of a plot. You do get to find out more about vampires, which is nice.
Overall, I would say that the book was just okay. It wasn't as good as the first Twilight book, but it holds its own. I will freely admit reading it in one day, so obviously I didn't hate it as much as my first paragraph my lead you to believe ;-)

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as the orignal but pretty good   December 4, 2008
I read this book and twilight over thanks giving weekend, and to tell you the truth this one is not as good. the reason i think that is(SPOILER ALERT) because Edward is not in it for much and i dont like Jacob. But this book is Very Good, i like how it says things like "After Romeo Was Banished Could Juiliet Settle With Paris" i loved that mostly because were reading Romeo And Juilet in Class, but any way back to the story, this was a exciting book, Bella almost dies like 500 hundred times, Edward almost kills himself, People they travel to italy,........i dont like how people say that "I Hate She Just took Edward back so quick" Well people Edward explained wyh he left and that is her true love what is she supposed to do. Well if you read the first read this one, and if u havn't read any of the....Start lol

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyed it, but a little disappointed   December 3, 2008

This book was a little harder to get through then Twilight. I found myself losing focus on the book as there were many parts that dragged. At times I felt the author could have easily cut off 100-150 pages and we wouldn't have missed a thing. Ok read, but definitely not as good as the first one.

4 out of 5 stars missed Edward's point of view...   December 3, 2008

The author was really brave, removing one of the primary characters away from the book for 400 pages. I liked the book, it was very different. he description of what ones goes through when one loses someone he or she loves is very accurate; I could identify with it. I also liked the development of the werewolves/shape shifters.

However, I did feel that when Edward and Bella finally meet, it was kind of as if they immediately got back to where they were. There was no awkwardness, no hurt feelings. All was forgiven, and immediately.

What I would have really liked (to make it 5 stars) was a recount of what Edward went through, both emotionally, as well as in his daily life in the period he disappears from Bella's life. Maybe Stephanie can write a 'Midnight Moon' as well as a 'Midnight Sun'!!!
