Book Description It's the phenomenon: 1,000 Places to See Before You Die has 2.2 million copies in print and has spent 144 weeks and counting on The New York Times bestseller list.
Now, shipping in time for the tens of millions of travelers heading out for summer trips, comes 1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. & Canada Before You Die. Sail the Maine Windjammers out of Camden. Explore the gold-mining trails in Alaska's Denali wilderness. Collect exotic shells on the beaches of Captiva. Take a barbecue tour of Kansas City—from Arthur Bryant's to Gates to B.B.'s Lawnside to Danny Edward's to LC's to Snead's. There's the ice hotel in Quebec, the Great Stalacpipe Organ in Virginia, cowboy poetry readings, what to do in Louisville after the Derby's over, and for every city, dozens of unexpected suggestions and essential destinations.
The book is organized by region, and subject-specific indices in the back sort the book by interest—wilderness, great dining, best beaches, world-class museums, sports and adventures, road trips, and more. There's also an index that breaks out the best destinations for families with children. Following each entry is the nuts and bolts: addresses, websites, phone numbers, costs, best times to visit.

Travel fun! January 7, 2009 A fun way to see what you have experienced and what else you need to see and do!
Great Fun December 31, 2008 It is fun to page through this book and check off places you have been and see what places you might like to visit.
If you asked a hundred people for a thousand places to see before you die, you might get a list similar to this. There is no doubt that you can do what other reviewers have done and thought of something that should be on the list but isn't. Overall however, this is a well thought out list with a wide variety of things to see and do.
This book is interesting in the types of 'places' it has listed. There are whole cities listed (Roswell, New Mexico), specific places within one city (Stockyards at Fort Worth Texas) and even events (Texas State Fair) and luxury hotels (Bellagio in Las Vegas). Some places listed cover several things all at once; for example, Food in New Orleans listed two or three very well known places to eat.
Great gift idea November 22, 2008 I love the idea behind putting this book together. It's neat to look through this book and see the places that I have already visited. Now when I drive through certain states I will make sure to visit these sites that I didn't know were such landmarks! I am getting this book for all of my friends for Christmas who I know take one or two vacations a year or who travel for work...heck, if you pass through several states on your way to your destination, you can knock out more of these than you think! Great idea for a book!
1000 places November 12, 2008 I bought this book before a recent road trip with my husband. It was very handy to give me insight to places we were visiting or ideas I hadn't already had. Overall it's just a fun book to have! I like to highlight all the places we have been.
Unbelieveable! November 2, 2008 I enjoy traveling and always looking for a new place to explore and what to do when I am there. This book tells you exactly that and more. When the best time to go and how much you will be spending on rooms and excursions. I really enjoyed going through this book and highlighting where I have been and where I want to go. This book is exactly what I was looking for. THANK YOU!!
