Product Description
In Multiple Blessings, Kate Gosselin shares the gripping details of her rollercoaster ride of emotional highs and lows when she discovered she and her husband, Jon, would be expecting sextuplets while still basking in the light of their twin girls' toddlerhood. Strongly encouraged to consider selective reduction for the sake of both mother and babies, she and Jon instead decided to accept the extreme challenge God had handed them. After suffering the long and winding road of infertility, the young couple felt stressed but blessed as they fought valiantly to help their babies survive the fight for their lives. Kate reveals excerpts from her private journal as she describes the daily struggle to carry the babies for thirty weeks. In addition to their uphill medical battle, the family suffered many emotional setbacks such as the loss of Jon's job, forcing the pair to look to God as their sole provider and sustainer of life.

After the miraculous birth, the couple coped with months of neonatal intensive care for their newborns as well as Kate's physical recovery from such complete and prolonged bed rest. Later as the entire family of ten finally arrived home reeling with exhaustion, they still managed to feed, bathe, clothe, and monitor the health of their fragile infants as a steady parade of necessary and helpful volunteers turned their home and family life into a public arena.

The young family lived moment to moment at first, not knowing what each new day would bring and how they would survive on such depleted sleep, money, and emotional reserves. However, as the months progressed, they grew into the next stage of development, proudly letting go of yesterday and looking forward to a brighter and ever-changing tomorrow. Their small home was soon filled to capacity with six cribs, six bouncy seats, several changing tables, never-ending piles of laundry, tubs of colorful toys, stacks of diapers, cartons of formula, rows and rows of bottles, bibs and pacifiers, two triplet strollers, six car seats, and so on. Yes, life was hectic and cramped, but with each major milestone Jon and Kate rejoiced at the miracles that unfolded around them. The crew of six growing babies along with their proud big sisters, Madelyn and Cara, did their part to fill those rooms with squawking, squealing, laughing, and of course, a healthy dose of crying. Kate and Jon eventually came out of the fog of the first precarious two years feeling eternally grateful for the love and support of family, friends, community, and indeed a nation. More important, they felt the ever present hand of a faithful God upholding them and giving them just enough strength and courage to take one day at a time.

5 out of 5 stars Mulitple Bles8ings   December 5, 2008
I love the way the author created the title, showing an 8. It gives the book character, plus shows in underlying meaning of the 8 children that the Gosselin's are raising.

This book is an in-depth read into the lives of Jon and Kate who are raising 8 - yes, count, 8 children. If you have seen the show, Jon and Kate plus 8, you already know that these children were conceived by infertility treatments. This book leads up to what we know on the show and shows how and why Jon and Kate got to where they are today.

While reading this, I can understand with Kate, being a mother myself. You do not have time for yourself, but 6 babies and 2 toddlers would put a damper on anyone. I have a lot of children and grandchildren, but their all different ages, giving me a break. I recommend all mothers to read this who are stressed out thinking they have no time to themselves. I was intrigued by Kate's story and was not surprised to find out what her career was - a nurse. It makes perfect sense.

5 out of 5 stars Great BOOK   December 4, 2008
This is a great book for moms or moms to be or anyone who just likes kids. I would recommend it to anyone. I loved it, read it about 2 days. So interesting. It has pictures and its like she's talking to you. Loved it and the show.

I love the show, I love the book. Like the show, it's honest and humble.

Jon and Kate are doing a great job with their children and glorifying the one they serve. I wish all the people who review this book would keep their negative comments and personal attacks to themselves. If you don't like them ...ugh.. don't watch/read about them. That simple.

I've become quite disenchanted with the TV show and the book was no better. Kate is self serving, self absorbed, and selfish. Traits I see developing in some of their children: particularly the ill behaved, tantrum prone, poorly socialized Mady. Having cameras trained on these small children for multiple days a week isn't healthy. Jon and Kate should be ashamed. They give lip service to their Christian values along with their supposed deep commitment to their family. Those seem to be just words: their actions are to be parasites on the backs of their children. Children they couldn't have without benefit of medical science. If they were as they claim to be (ie: caring parents), why not live their lives truly putting the children's interests first? Instead rather than actually working and providing for the family they created, they use the children to support the group. (It sure isn't Kate people are tuning in for...she is nasty mean and treats Jon with amazing disrespect and disdain.) Probably bottom line: they're starting to suffer from over exposure. The small children are adorable, but the cameras and attention are beginning to show up in unhealthy behaviors in the twins. It's just a matter of time until the smaller children start to act out as well. Or worse, develop a sense of themselves that is not in line with reality. In ten years or so we'll see them on Intervention.

While I read the book, all I could hear was Kate's grating voice and I had to stop reading. I hope as co-author Beth gets something out of this. After being used for two years by the Gosslins, she has disappeared and I can't help but wonder: did she threaten Kate and have to be removed from the show so Kate wouldn't look so bad?

Bottom line: save your money for a good read...or donate the amount to charity.

Well-written and a fun book about Kate and Jon Gosselin. If you liked the show, you'll love the book. Easy reading. I also loved Michele Cozzen's It's Not Your Mother's Bridge Club
